Inclusive Society Institute (ISI) at UN’s Summit of the Future (SOTF): UN Headquarters, New York: 20-23 September 2024

The ISI, represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Daryl Swanepoel, participated in the UN ‘s Summit of the Future, which was hosted by the United Nations at their headquarters in New York over the period 20 – 23 September 2024.

 

The SOTF offered a once-in-a-generation opportunity for change in order to pave a way to a better future for tomorrow. It was convened by the Secretary General to generate opportunities for the engagement of all societal actors. It brought together representatives from Member States, civil society, the private sector, academia, local and regional authorities, youth and many more. The Action days provided an opportunity for broad engagement and inclusion of stakeholders that have played a key role in shaping the Pact for the Future.

 

Following the opening ceremony on the first Action  Day, sessions included a dialogue with the Secretary General, youth lead engagements on Innovative Solutions in Humanitarian Action, Foresight in Climate and Environmental Sustainability, Gender Equity to Empower Girls and Young Women at the heart of Multilateralism, Intergenerational Equity and Solidarity for a Shared Future, Inclusive Digital for All, and Governance for Human Rights, Peace and Security, and Political Processes.

 

Action Day 2 focussed on three main themes: A Digital Future for All, A Sustainable Future for All and A Peaceful Future for All.

 

The Action days were followed by two Interactive Dialogue days where four interactive dialogues were hosted:

 

  • Transforming global governance and turbocharging the implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development

  • Enhancing multilateralism for international peace and security

  • Towards a Common Digital Future: strengthening inclusive innovation and cooperation to bridge the digital divide

  • The Future Starts Now: enhancing the global system for current and future generations
