Kagiso Trust Anti-Corruption High Level Dialogue: 1 June 2022

The Inclusive Society Institute (ISI) participated in the Kagiso Trust Anti-Corruption High Level Dialogue, which was held at Constitution Hill, Johannesburg. The ISI was represented by Professor Evangelos Mantzaris, who led the Institute’s own research looking into the feasibility and desirability of a National Anti-Corruption Agency for South Africa.

Five themes were identified during the dialogue:

  • Taking a stand against corruption

  • The implications of State Capture

  • Understanding the causes of corruption

  • Challenges and opportunities to build social accountability

  • Enhancing coordination for social mobilisation to promote access to justice and combat corruption

Professor Mantzaris delivered a presentation on the outcomes of the ISI research into the desirability and feasibility of an Anti-Corruption Agency for South Africa. Much emphasis was placed on the need to rebuild trust between the organs of state and the public, without which, the fight against corruption would come to naught.
